I like the diawa kenzaki 6 to 12 lb, its got a nice light tip but loads of grunt in the middle if you do get hooked into something big.

I have a Savage Gear Predator 9' 40-100g spinning rod that I use for flattie fishing on the drift. It will comfortably fish a 3oz lead and handles everything from dabs and plaice to double figure rays. Love using it for gilling for Pollack etc, and have taken Tope & Spurs on it as well. It works for me. If I was fishing a mark that didn't have rays, and I could fish with 1oz lead, I would try a lighter spinning rod I guess.

I have an Uglystic spinning rod which I use for mackerel. It,s great, reasonably cheap compared to some other rods and it is very durable. It is also strong in case you catch anything a bit bigger.

The grauvell range of boat rods would be perfect for this type of fishing. I have the Azimut, It is the replacement for the Anaga. It's a cracking rod for the money. It has 2 tips, the light one is perfect for species fishing and flatties....lovely soft tip. The red tip is stronger and I use this for larger species and reef fishing. I also use it for uptiding... A genuine all rounder. You can pick them up off Dan in Halfway Tackle in Cork or Viking Tackle in Bray.
