can anyone advise me where I would be able to dig or pump for black-lugworm around the co Louth coast.
I have dug blow-lug at Annagassan but i cant locate black-lug...
(I dug sand gapers which were very successful for codling)

Excuse my ignorance but what is a sand gaper please ?

Can be located by a keyhole depression in the sand. There like clams with a siphon which you cut off when fishing. Google it!

sand gaper also knowen as gaper clam or pissers they can be found when digging lug in most places around dublin dont know about the rest of the country but they can be very good for cod and even bass i was told once from a good angler that they are best left to go off for a few days as this is the way the fish would find them after a storm as they live fairly deep in the sand/mud and the fish cant get to them but after a storm they would be washed up out of there burrrows and this is when the fish get them hope this helps

my oul lad is from ringsend also ,tight lines and he used to call them colliers when we were digging when i was a young lad

they were a great all round bait , best left smelly is right

Id love to know where black lug is dug also. The frozen black lug in the tackle shops is hardly coming from to far a field

I actually think that it is, being imported from the UK.

Hi lads I'm from Waterford I have just started digging black lug on a beach in Waterford. I have managed 2 get a few good size lug so I decided on getting a bait pump. Now I have watched lads on utube at it and getting them in one pump I am prity much doing the same as them with little luck few full worms mostly bits ! Can anybody please give me any advise on what I'm doing wrong

hi Waterwizard,all you can do is keep practicing you are prob doing very little wrong if you are getting tails.Keep at it and you will get.
If you get a tail have a quick look in the hole you pumped sometimes the worm is at the mouth of the hole and if your quick you will get it with your hand
