Chances of donegal cod

hi all, this is my first post on this site. I have been fishing for years mainly fair weather angling and boat angling but with the intention to take shore angling more serious I thought here would be a good place to start. With cod being one speices that has always evaded me im curious of peoples opinions. Is there any point targeting cod in the north donegal area mainly around Lough Swilly and surrounding areas, or would i be better spending the time travelling further afield? all opinions and suggestions welcome.
