Rod recomendations

#1 Post by PaddyB »

Lads Im looking for suggestions for a rod to be used for fishing wrecks in 100 to 150ft of water.

I have tried several set ups, but have never really been 100% with any of them.

Grauvell Anaga, brilliant for inshore work, but I find that it struggles when you have to go over 10oz of lead.
Diawa TLD 4 to 10oz uptide, can handle the heavier leads, but at 9ft6 after a few hours of pulling up 2 and 3 pollock and coalies at a time, the arms are pullled outa ye!
Diawa Kenzaki 20lb, no problem with heavy leads, no problem whinching in fish, but at 7ft8 its too short, it just doesnt feel right?

Am I being too fussy, or is there somthing out there that would fit the bill?

I recently got a 30lbs Kenzaki braid, and although I have not taken it out on the water yet, I think it looks well up to the the job. I bought it for the type of deep water wrecking work you described. Up until now I'd been using 20lbs rods that I generally use for my shallower water tope fishing, but I'd found them a little soft for hauling fish out of 200ft+. Not sure I'd want a rod that was any longer tbh.

My 2 cents

Rob
