Lacken - Cullenstown estuary, Wexford

#1 Post by thirty »

Lads, anyone fish Lacken for the flounder lately? I don't need any great detail, just wondering if it was fishing well or not, any weed etc? PM if you don't want to post here.

Thanks in advance.

I fished a competition at the coal yard Oct 13th. It was a disaster. 9 anglers fished and only 1 Flounder was weighed in. East Coast Raiders fished the week before us in Lacken and they had similar results with only 2 fish weighed in from 12 anglers. There was mountains of kelp in the water which has obviously been pushed in from the open sea. There has been so much rain down there that it might be affecting the fish populations as heavy rain will turn fish off the feed. Then again there may simply be no Flounder down there anymore. I fished my first competition in Cullenstown in 1983 and in the many trips there since I've never seen it this bad. Any venue can produce a blank but when you have very experienced match anglers fishing a venue with the best bait you can get your hands on with a decent tide and almost everyone blanks, then something is going wrong.

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot
