Triggerfish and wrasse, methods and bait.
Hi guys, I fished a new mark yesterday spinning for wrasse and I had great success at it, had a good few missed fish and a few that made it to the bolt hole but I was getting hit on almost every cast. The thing is I have a sneaking suspicion that there are triggers at the mark aswell. I know they are 2 miles down the shore from the mark from watching videos of scuba dives. I would estimate that the water is 20-30ft deep right at your feet and I was wondering would this be too deep to float fish a limpet? I only have one spinning rod suitable for wrasse and my uncle is home on holidays so I was thinking about trying for a few hours with the limpets and let him do the spinning. Any help or info would be much appreciated.

thin strips of limpet floating on a smallish hook for triggerfish as they ave small mouths anyway.....
Always CAR! unless its a pollock...!
2012 species: Pollock, Mack, Coalfish, Gurnard, Bullhuss, Dogfish and Wrasse.
Would do anything for a bass!

I know that alright. Was wondering more so if there was any point float fishing in that depth of water, would they come up to the bait?agardiner22 wrote:thin strips of limpet floating on a smallish hook for triggerfish as they ave small mouths anyway.....

Re: Triggerfish and wrasse, methods and bait.
it will be slapped legs for you Joe. They are triggers but you are running out of time and it is easiest to find them when it has been calm for a while. They do not cope with the rough weather and you get plenty of swell on that mark. look for the slower bits.
Try tying a 2-3 ounce lead off the bottom of a three way swivel on about a two foot weak link, then make a paternoster with about 9 inches of hooklength.
as for baits , limpet, small crab, peelers if there are any down the castle. prawn and shrimp, cockle, mussel will all work on the day but as where you are fishing will mainly support limpet, prawn and crab try those first.
I had trouble getting hammered by small pollack last time I tried
Good luck

It was very calm the couple of days i was there neil and the best part of the mark for wrasse is in a bit of a cove, the water was almost still inside there. Pollock dont seem to be too plentiful there but it was sunny the 2 days I went and that might have put them off. I will give it a shot anyway if the weather stays calmish for the week.baitdigger wrote:it will be slapped legs for you Joe. Went looking for triggers myself in west cork yesterday, no joy. I might make one more trip before the water gets too cold, although... at 12'c I think its too cold already!
