#1 Post by karlm »

People:Myself & Donal

Duration:11am-6pm

Tide:both

Weather:sunny southerly breeze

Bait:macks

Rigs:sliding ledger wire trace

Results:1 tope,1 dogfish

Report:we hired a boat from ray in wicklow boat hire he has a great set up and would recommend to anybody.Set off to try a few banks we had in mind nothing happened at all so we moved off to another location,Donal was fishin before myself and since there was'nt much happening I was given up hope of a tope and asked if he was sticking with the wire trace luckily he said he was and I did also..only had the bait in the water for about 5 mins and got a knock i first thought i was snagged felt like a dead weight so i was thinking maybe a ray until donal yelled ya have a tope!i caught a glimpse of it before it decided to go for a run again the hook was nicely set but I've lost one from the shore and a charter boat before this was'nt happening again i hoped!!!we struggled a little but got in in between us in the end have pics will sort them later estimated 35lbs.

I never suggested anybody was stupid in my post, yep looks like a wind against tide situation in the pictures, they are the conditions that can catch the most experianced of boat owners out even if they think they know their own limits.
im aware of the 15ft punt and 2hp outboard yous have,i think donal was asking about it's suitability to make a trip out to the moulditch a while back.

And I fully agree with what you have mentioned about tide against the wind situation and fully respect the sea elements. But I posted this report to show the catch not for people to analyse that the weather was'nt the best and we was at risk.
