Disagree entirely with the last post. Multipliers not to everyones taste so why invest so much in something you may not like in the end. The Magnetix casts well, has good quality build and is good value for money. Down points are a slightly noisy retrieve and they are not as easy to disassemble and service as the more expensive Abus, 525 Mags or 7HT Mags.

You don't have to spend a fortune to get a decent Mag multiplier, the Okuma is unfairly disrespected.

I'm just speaking from my experiences Gripper, obviously if others owned one and it didnt perform or last that would be a good reason for their dislike of the reel.

Each to their own I suppose :) Horses for courses 8)

Couldn't disagree more Shane... I have battered a level wind version around the boat for 4 years now without any problems and only one service a year. For mixed shore work, where some grunt is needed they would be better that the Abu's. Much larger and stronger gears....

Having said that, The Abu's look nicer and are smoother, but for a starter multiplier..... before you buy a Penn 525  The Magnatex is a good option.

Howya kev obviously the okuma will have bigger stronger gears than the Abu as the Abu is a clean ground reel and has the smallest gears of the reels I mentioned but is still 100 times better than the okuma. Iv serviced lots of the okumas for the tackle shop and the insides are very poor and made from crap material. You can pick up a used Penn or Abu for 50 to 80 yo yo id rather get over 10 years out of a reel than 4

We'll have to agree to disagree so  I like the Magnetix.. The Penn 525 is a better reel for sure and I would and do use the Abu's for clean ground only.

I'd like to know what parts you consider crap Shane.... the gears are Brass and from what I could see the internals looked good. I must pull mine apart for a look again.

For the Money, it's hard to beat the Okuma.... If you can find a nice second hand 525 for the same cash, I would go with that option, but I would not put you off the Okuma.
