can anyone help me with Cork holiday locations please?

#1 Post by lastcast »

Hi lads, I have just had the toughest year of my life with serious ilness and operations, and I am looking to have a little holiday in Co Cork with my wife at the end of September. We have been hard hit with red tide here in Donegal and I would love to do a bit of fishing on my holiday, so need somewhere where I could maybe lure fish for Bass, Pollack or Wrasse from the shore. I have been left partly disabled so preferably somewhere where i wouldn't have to walk further than say half a mile each way from the car, and no strenuous rock climbing. I don't expect anyone to give away their good spots, but if anyone could give me a few pointers to locations where I might have a fair chance of a fish or two and be nice areas to explore with the better half, then you would have my greatest appreciation
Thanks for reading this and I look forward to any replies.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, kilkeeconger, I will certainly have a look at that. I have happy memories of fishing from my boat (now gone) from Kilkee in the nineties. The fishing was out of this world.

Hi lastcast, i lived in kinsale for a few years and there is a few places in that area for fishing and it its also a really nice place to holiday. For pollack and wrasse there will be a bit of rock fishing which probably would not suit you but garretstown etc is not that far away if you want to try for some bass and there is plenty of mackeral and mullet in the harbour.
Good things come to those who bait.

Hiya Flyno
Thanks for that! Funnily enough my wife said she would like to try Kinsale and it does sound nice. I have been looking for holiday cottages that take dogs (we have 2 wee mutts) and the nearest I could find to Kinsale within our price range so far is Courtmacsherry, which I believe is not far from Kinsale. Is that a good spot too?

Courtmacsherry would be ideal. There is good bass fishing in the estuary every autumn. The lads fish from boats on moorings near the pier.I am sure that you could wangle an invite!Clonakilty bay also fishes well.

As fastnet says, also on the way there from kinsale you will pass a lot of coastline that has good fishing with easy access. Maybe some of the other lads would advice you on were to get bait in that area or bring some with you. There is some good lug beds but i dunno if your able to dig or not. Hope it goes well....
