Re: litter at black head fanore
sorry john to be so pessimistic but i think there is a report of the rubbish at blackhead nearly every month during the summer since 2004
any search will throw up plenty of comments and threads - its the same all over the country
usual no bins, culture problem, lack of education, no enforcement of litter laws etc. etc.
it will never change, i know its not right, but what can you do
it baffles me how people behave this way in one of the most beautiful parts of the country

Its a disgrace alright the way the place is left. If there was bins there the same people would still throw their shi*e on the ground anyway.

Re: litter at black head fanore
No point complaining here... or anywhere else...
Everytime we go out fishing we bring with us a rubbish bag since one of my mates rent payment includes rubbish collection and is not by weight. We take home a few fish from the sea and a lot of rubbish with us.
Process:
a. Put bait
b. Cast
c. Put in tripod
d. collect rubbish around
e. retrieve fish
f. go back to step a.
This way you help a lot.
Most of the people who throw and leave rubbish irresponsibly are not here in the forum...
Just sharing what we have been doing for 5 years since I started fishing.

Re: litter at black head fanore
Sad to say it isnt that bad this year, a lack of mackerel has lead to a very quiet summer. You should see it when the big shoals are in.
The Truth is often stumbled upon by men, most of whom pick themselves up and hurry along as if nothing ever happened.

Re: litter at black head fanore
I was there on and off the last two weeks. Myself and a pal filled a bag of rubbish at the light house. The stretches closer to Ballyvaughan weren't that bad though.

Re: litter at black head fanore
We always fill a bag at least when we are there. The last few times it has been noticeably cleaner so I am hoping that things are starting to change. It's depressing how much line and rig wrappers there is compared to regular rubbish...
How anyone can litter in such a beautiful place stuns me.
I've taken to asking people I meet fishing there to tidy up after themselves too and always had good reactions.
Here's hoping it continues...

Re: litter at black head fanore
Hello,
Cleaning up other people's rubbish is something that I make a habit of without looking for any thanks. I personally try hard not to think of the small number of brain-dead individuals who destroy beauty by carelessly littering. Concerned people who pack up and bring away even a little of the rubbish are the quiet heroes of the piece. Well done!

Re: litter at black head fanore
I'm back behind the desk in the office and I'd sell my granny to be back at Black Head for a couple of hours, even just to watch the gannets dive. What a place!
