beach rod recommendations

#1 Post by Ric0shay »

I was out last night and my greys grx-s 13ft literately exploded about 3ft from the top, thats 2 rods in less then a week but lets not talk about that.I wasn't doing anything out of the ordinary,a 2oz lead on a pennel pully rig short casted for bass.Im a bit drunk as the rod was less then a year old.Iv contacted Greys as there suppose to have a lifetime warranty so ill see how that goes but if not I'm in the market for a new shore rod.

I'm looking for something no bigger then 13ft,all rounder. It should be able to handle mixed ground but nothing to rough.Iv a budget of about €150.
I don't mind buying second hand.

Any help would be great.

Not sure what others on here would recommend but in that price range, I have a Penn powerstix pro surf 13ft and I can't fault it at all. Its rated 3-6oz but i never fish above 5oz. It's light, casts well with good bite detection. A new one would only set you back around 110-120 euro. You would get a dinger of a used high end rod for 150 euro though if you chose to go secondhand.

The ian golds international match is a lovely rod. Their a small bit above your budget but they come up 2nd hand every now and then around the 150 mark and sometimes well below it. The extractor is nice too but 14ft.

@ red

I bet you like most of your rods and same time they were all so different when i had experience to hold them.

What i mean here is that theres plenty good rods out there, but you have to hold them in your hand and make a choice on your own ... ?

Its like, some like beemers and others like skodas ...

Cheers lads.Iv heard back from Greys and they said "sorry to hear of the problem you have experienced unfortunately we no longer have the section for the GRX-S 13’ beachcaster however we could replace it with the current GRXS – Shore rod which is the new version"

I cant argue with that.Ill let you know how it turns out.
