How many pollock??...

#1 Post by mackfish »

Well lads...you well??

Was just wondering if any of you take many pollock home?..I would generally take about 7 fish between 2-3lbs as I know they will all be used!(baked or beer battered)...

Do you think that is too many?..Ive heard that pollock over 3lb aren't as good for eating as the 2-3lbers!..
sure, its not raining between the showers!

id normally take 2 or 3 home of about the 3 pound mark if i was in the form for filleting them, always find a good home for them if i don'nt eat them myself. saying that,iv often caught 20 plus pollack & released them back.just like catching them for the bit of sport too.i think it more the time of year that affects the taste then the size to be honest :D

I caught over thirty today and only kept the two that swallowed the lure down to their stomach. North Clare was full of them today everywhere I tried

I love eating fish and have absolutely no moral qualms at all about taking some home and eating them although I do like to release fish that are lightly hooked and stand a chance of survival. I usually keep most fish that are deep hooked. Despite what most anglers think they aren't going to survive and I would rather they fed me than the seals and gulls. Once you don't go around killing everything you catch I don't think the fish population has much to worry about.
