Red Tide in Kerry

Hi Lads.

Read somewhere on here the red tide of death has reached Kerry is this true? Im heading down to Dingle for the long weekend for a family thing but was gonna sneak off for a few casts. Am I wasting my time?

If the fishing is still ok are there many macks being caught at Brandon pier and anything stirring around the harbour itself?

Im for heading to castlegregory for a week myself in the middle of aug was so looking forward to it now getting concerned any updates over the next week or two would be great

I can't say for certain, i did drive the whole length of Inch on Sunday evening, didn't see anything out of the ordinary on there, one or two dead crabs no more than normal though, it's hard to say, maybe this blow that's moving in will help?

I suggest that you read your third link again there - you know, the one where it says that it's NOT harmful to humans. Also, a member of the Phytoplankton unit of the Marine Institute was posting on another thread and has already stated that this bloom is not harmful to humans. If anyone is going to know, he will.

Hey Guys, I have a small tackle store in Tralee and have heard nothing of the dreaded red tide as of yet. Going to head out this evening for a cast but as far as I know Tralee Bay,Castlegregory and Brandon Bay are unaffected. To put ye at ease the fishing this evening will be for purely for scientific reasons......

I walked the lenght of Fenit Island at high water lure fishing and walked home about halfway down the tide and gladly I found no dead marine life. There was plenty of life in the rock pools which I am assuming would be the first casulites. I almost walked into a decent Bass when I was wading through the weed which gave me hope. Alas I only managed a small schoolie on a Savagear sandeel which put up a nice little fight. The light was beginning to fade fast though so I had to make my way back to the van to avoid wading in the dark.

So no death tide in Fenit, fingers crossed it stays that way!
