Boat Angling beginner. Help needed!
Hi all, could anyone please inform me of what type of rod, reel, rigs and mainline I will need for boat fishing?
it'll be my first time boat fishing. We're getting a charter off Kilmore so i think the fishing will be drifting over reefs and sandbanks and a bit of mackeral bashing..
i am completely clueless about this kind of fishing so any help would be much appreciated! Thanks.

Any good charter company would supply all that for and the skipper would help you out with jigs, if not try look for an Abu Garcia Muscle Tip Combo (70 - €80) comes with a big hefty multiplier loaded with 30lb mono. And along the lines of jigs look at feathers, sea flec, hokkai, squid jigs or if you like the soft bait choice try get some berkley powerbait worms and stick them on a three hook flapper.
All the info is an assumption that it'll mainly be jigging that your doin. But your skipper should have more suited info for ya.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.
P.S if your in desperate need of the rod, you can get all of the above in Dingle

before you go to huge expense buying rods and reels most of the charters in kilmore will rent you rods and reels i think its 10 euros for the day . all the shamrock rigs work really well in kilmore .muppets sabikis cod caspers ect bring at least 6 different ones and about 8x 1lb weights .also bring a couple of tope traces, for rays and predaters
weather permitting we normally ask the skipper to finish on the sandbanks for the last couple of hours hope you get a great day with loads of fish .what boat are you going out on?

Rather than give you an expensive wish-list I'd suggest you check whether the charter skipper can provide the basic gear -- rod , reel , weights ---- and not forgetting bait ( best guess that will be mackerel which you'll catch on the way out ) . He should also be able to advise more specifically about what type of ground you'll be covering and therefore the general type of rig(s) you'll want . Once you know that I am sure you can get top tips about the finer detail on this forum .
Good luck
Hmm , looks like twinkle hit the reply icon just a bit quicker than I did but since it has taken me 20 mins to type this I'm going to post it anyway !
