Jellyworming for pollock- losing gear

Was at what I thought was an excellent mark for pollock: Rocky outcrop with access to lovely deep clear water. Was there yesterday evening fishing into twilight- just kept getting snags and losing gear!

After losing five or six jellyworm baited hooks due to snags, I decided to move to a stronger BS snood- with the result that instead of the snnod being lost I was losing the whole rig!

Can anyone give me any pointers as to where I might me going wrong?

turn the tip of the hook up to the top of the worm and push the point in gently, it will release on a bite but won't snag. I'm open to correction but I do believe its called a 'Texas rig'. Might sort you out

The rig shown is probably going to invite snags if the hook is facing down or can spin around. You have a couple of options. Seeing as you are already close to a texas rig you could just get some offset hooks.

Alternatively you could rig to a leadhead. Your hook will be kept facing upwards and should snag less. You can also get "weedless" heads which would snag even less.

I think losing some gear is character building and is part and parcel of experimentation with plastics.....it gets less with time and experience....I know too well!

On top of what Jim said, pollack live in those nasty snaggy areas and if you are not losing a few rigs chances are you are not fishing in the right place from the shore. I have found that a 'weedless texas rig snags less than an SP presented on a jighead.
also if you are losing at lot of gear look for cheaper alternative suppliers such as AGM products http://www.agmdiscountfishing.co.uk/

I was in the same boat myself but as the lads have said above just about covers it .But i find braid is a big plus as well to less loss of gear you might using it already but it can help

Obviously the area I'm fishing is extremely snaggy, will need to rig my SP accordingly

weedless is the way to go alright, only started using them in the last week or two and didnt loose anything in 3 sessions, compared to loosing masses of gear usually lol using the rig you posted i use one ounce lead or smaller, used to use 2 and 3's when i first started which was madness, The lighter gear is well able to hold up to the pollock.
