good luck with that one gerry. and welcome to the forum..
good turbot fishing from our shores, ive been told, was once commonplace but due to over-fishing it just doesnt exist any more
i spent a long time trying to catch a turbot from the northwest coast (apparently one of the bast places to get them from the shore around ireland) and when i eventually caught one it was only very small. mind you, i was maybe not fishing the best time of year for them.
you'd do well if you managed to get one from the shore down on the south coast apparently - i would like to be told or proven wrong otherwise tho!
donegal area and north coast will always produce them from the shore but getting one at a couple of pounds would be an achievement to say the least. only a handful every year that size are caught from the shore
plenty of info and chat/reports of fishing for them on this forum here if you 'search' for it. you could use the search option at the top of the page
cheers

they're still here, just very few and far between...i use a long and low size 1 hook or an upside down pulley...fresh lug on its own or tipped with squid usually does it for me...rag and razor would do the job too, have never tried it tho...my buddy uses it for them, and lets his bait walk, with a dead weight instead of a small gripper like me..works out grand for him...good luck :) pm sent

waterfoot, glenariffe, co.antrim?
very few and far between in waterfoot. only ever heard of flounder, dabs and plaice caught there - in relation to flatties.
seen some decent ones caught out on a boat though in red bay (i got a 4lb one  ) but that was many moons ago..
heard of the odd one being caught from carnlough
