finding manufacture year of me outboard : (

hey lads,just trawled the net

looking to find the year of manufacture for me mariner 40 hp...

shes a 4o em 6e9s...any help or suggestions as to where i can find it would be greatly appreciated...

cheers tanglerat..but i have been a dozen of these sites already this morning,from jap sites to swedish...day off aahh

but none seem to have the model 40 em,i think the em means electric and manual start... and i cant find any serials with 6e9s...bit of a bummer...

are you getting that number from the plate on the transom bracket of you engine?
I think there should be a bit more to it.

She is a Jap (Yamaha) Mariner. I have some info at home and will pop it up this evening. From memory she would be somewhere between 78 - 83 engine. I'll post some more this evening.

Just seen Tangerlats link. I'd say this will give you the best indication. There is not that many references to EM out there, but there are a few. I'd say your looking at 81 or 82 depending on your serial number.

sure am lad...ther is more to it ya...i thought just the model type and the four digits would be enough...i know that in the states they drop the letter after the 6e9s,unfortunatly that does'nt apply to me b'cause shes jap...and i think after '96/97 mariner started to put the year on that said plate,but theres no way shes that new...
