Sourcing lug in Sligo

#1 Post by gerty86 »

Hi Lads,

Going to be in Sligo over the long weekend and am going to try and get out to do a bit a beach fishing at some stage. I'm interested in digging my own lug but am not sure where to go. From what I understand lug cannot be sourced in any of the tackle shops in town. On my last trip to Sligo I landed out to Streedagh with the rods in the boot and a fork to dig for some bait. I was digging for about half an hour on the beach to the right of the car park and only managed about 4 tiny worms. I ended up having to go home without even getting the rods out of the car. That was the second time I tried to dig lug there with no success. I usually dig my own lug when in Galway so have an idea of how to go about doing it.

Any alternative locations in around Sligo that lug can be dug at would be greatly appreciated...

Also, is it possible to buy good mack in any shop in town?

Cheers

Ballysadare bay is the best spot to dig lug, follow the road along the coast from strandhill and you will see loads of spots on your right. A half hour there should produce more than enough lug. If u can get ammo mack in Barton smiths it should be ok but if you want top class bait try Sean in land and sea sports bundoran. If you're stuck for directions pm me ill give you better ones.

Thanks for the reply Shane! I have a good idea of the area you are talking about. I'll defiantly give it a go and hopefully get myself a few juicy lug.

Thanks again.

Nationwide Baits are now supplying the bait to Land and Sea Sports in Bundoran and soon hope to have a full range of baits in shops right across the country.
I will post up the names of all the shops in the next few weeks.
