I don't think macks register on a fish finder cos they have no swim bladder or something. Read that somewhere before don't know if its true though. Anyone else hear???

it depends on the transducer. a dual frequency transducer should pick them up. i wasn't surprised that there were no macks about because it is still only march but i was surprised that nothing was showing up at all.....

I have a Raymarine DX500x finder. It's a new digital finder & It's Dual frequency. It does not pick up Macks due to them not having a swim bladder... Sometimes if there are other fish among them like Herring or Scad then you might think you are marking the Mackerel, but your not... I've often been getting 5 at a time with nothing on the finder.

The Pelagic Trawlers have equipment that can pick the shoals up and track them, but they paying tens of thousands for their equipment.

Oh right. Fair enough. I was put under the impression that a dual frequency transducer would do the trick. Interesting to hear that it doesn't
