Casting techniques

#1 Post by caferacer »

Im a novice shore angler but have been freshwater fishing for 30 years and decicded that the carp/pike gear isnt up to scratch for shorecasting so went and bought a 13ft Anywhere 6 and bait(fixed spool),teamed with a Daiwa Emcast Advanced and an Abu Stigma teamed with an Abu Record.Im heading to the local pitch tomorrow to acquaint myself with the joys of birdsnests, any pointers? Is there a different technique with shore fixed spool casting than casting at range(100yds+) with 3lb tc rods for carp that I used do?

The groundcasting tips are excellent, after an hour I was launching a lead over the ton.I was told that removing the level wind will increase distance and reduce crack offs?

Removing the levelwind will help increase distance but its only smoothness in the cast and line lay that will reduce crack offs.. Stick with the OTG for a while untill you have minimised birdys and crack offs, once your consistantly hitting 150-200yds than consider shifting to a moving lead. Once the basics of OTG are instilled it will make the move to pendulum alot easier as some the same principals apply in both casts...
You could always pop up to our next club meet on 29th April for some tips and pointers and also get an accurite measure on the court...
