Donegal

Hey Guys.

I'm planning a short break in Donegal during April or May this year. Having never fished the area before, I was hoping that someone would be willing to offer advice on good fishing marks for this time of year. I'm flexible on where I can stay in the county but as I'm a virgin to the area I was hoping that some guidance would stop me from wildly chucking lines at any piece of water that seems a bit fishy.

Any advice of suppliers of bait in the area would also be of help as any I take up with me might well run out in the first few days. My thanks in advance .

Having only really tried the delights of Inishowen I can only offer the Following Fahan, of the Beach near the Marina is good place for Ray look for the Channel leading into the Marrina. Buncrana Pier is good For doggies and coallies, Spinning around Dunree Fort and the beach next to it can either be good or woefull, Bunigee Peir at CulDaff and the Beach at Culdaff are also good spots.

if your for the donegal bay area the only bait is mackeral. from glencolmcille to bundoran it works an all sandy bits seem to fish well but the one's i know best is fintra its fishin ok at the mo. 2hrs before an 2 after low water is best ,an at night is always good if theres surf . best of luck!

Sounds good. I know I'll be around there at some time. Any ideas where I can get fresh mack? I'll g et some at home and bring it up but it's just in case I run out.

I fished Bundoran yesterday and there were some cracking flounder caught up to 45cm's as well as turbot and trout
Call into Sean at land and sea sports at the bottom of the town he will give you all the info you need on the area and has bait there also.

before i came over to australia a few months back i was fishing a fair bit up off of the far side, i was staying in Annagry and was with someone who knew a few marks very easy to find from here too cant remember the names to say (sorry) except for cruit, i remember that because we went out on a boat and towards the end of a rather succesfull trip we decided to try for some flatties, and it looked like we only a cast from a mark we at the day before and pulled in spotted ray thorn back ray and 4 or 5 different small flatties, that trip we also caught a few cracking pollack and small coalies and a few mackrel(enough for bait and take home), i was dissapointed not to catch me a red gurnard, i was dying to taste one but from land marks we caught some smaller pollacks and a couple of tree beard rockling , there is plenty of fishing up there if youre putting the time in and weather isnt too s***, good luck

Thanks, will do. I've a soft spot for rock fishing and in particular Wrasse. It might be a bit early in the season in April but I've caught them in May from other spots so depending on the time I go away, I might get some sport.
