Types of fish to catch in late winter/spring ? East coast

#1 Post by SeanM »

I'm wondering what types if fish I can catch from Dublin to greystones in around february to april. I've never really had any luck in them months as it seems to be to late for whiting and to early for the pollock and wrasse.

Beach fishing will throw up flounder (numbers will increase after spawning in Jan/Feb), rockling, doggies and a few coleys. Chance of a bass into april although that's not through personal experience :(
It ain't easy but it sure is simple!

Yes dollymount will give you flounder of the beach maybe a few small whitings and if you wanted the bridge fish on the flood and in dark...... If your driving watch the car.... and if your of the beach wading be careful of the flooding tide it will catch you out floods behind you....

Sea fishing is at its worst at that time of year, especially in dublin. You will still catch small whiting though. Smoothhounds are caught at Poolbeg but I dont know when they start to come inshore as I've only fished there once. Flounder & coalies are probably your best option.

Hi mate,

Too late for whiting?? Its a real invasion of them...
Was out just yesterday, got at least 60 whitings, mixed size...
Also dab, flounder plenty of them. Coalies, yes, they should be there... Too quiet... Also with cod. Not much for any reason...

Cheers
Z.
