certs for scales

hi lads,the lms are finished certifing our scales,does anyone know who will be doing this job going forward,thanks to luke for all the work over the years,but like most things,cutbacks,eddie............................

Indeed it is a shame that the Legal Metrology Service are not doing it any more. Not sure if they are not doing it or that they will do it for a fee...
I'm told that the IFSC will be giving details as soon as they can.

Weighing scale certification 2012

Anglers will be advised of new arrangements for having personal weighing scales certified in 2012. After 15 years of providing a high quality service the Legal Metrology Service (LMS) of NSAI has advised that it will not be able to support this certification process in the future. On behalf of anglers Trevor Champ, ISFC Chairman thanked the management and staff of LMS for their efficiency and interest in this work. He added “having such a reputable state body supporting the certification was central to the continuation of the quality of the ISFC work”. The details for calibration and certification of scales in 2012 are being finalised by ISFC and anglers will be advised of the new arrangements via the ISFC website.

it costs just under £25 to get them done in the north here every year

it's always been the way up here in the north mac. you have to take them to trading standards (weights and measures) and they weigh 10 set weights on them. then print you off your certificate and charge you £19 plus £3.41 vat for the privilage the whole process only takes minutes to do. they really like getting the arm in right up to the elbow

I haven't heard anything yet. Hopefully there is something soon. There will be a big requirement once spring is on the horizon... Sure it nearly is! I'm good until March with my current cert.

Yea I know that much donal, My first post was to see if anyone heard anything since, There taking there time finalising/advising via the ifsc site.

we thought £25 in the north was expensive, well the new charge for the south is €50, add in registered postage to dublin and a cert for a weighing scales works out more expensive than putting a car thru the NCT Rop Off Ireland at its best.

The Mass Laboratory at NML currently offers the following range of traceable calibration services:

Fish Scales: Calibration of mechanical and digital fish scales based on EN 45501, from 0 – 100kg
Calibration Service Charge
There is a charge of €50 for this service.
This fee includes the issue of a calibration certificate and the return carriage of the fish scale.

Calibration of Fish Scales will be carried out during the second and third week of each month.
All Fish Scales will be returned on completion of calibration.

All Fish Scales should be sent to the NSAI National Metrology Laboratory accompanied by a completed Calibration Payment Form

Whatever about the price (which is high) it seems an awful pain that you must send the scales to Dublin. You have to wonder why the local offices could not calibrate them on receipt of a paid voucher (if they do not want to take money at the local offices). Who knows?

jeese man that's rough . thankfully i'm lucky enough to live close to the offices where we get ours certified. they usually get them done in an hour or so. looks like i'll not be complaining paying the £25 any more compared to the way things have gone over the border

I hope this over the following year(s) it will not affect the amount of claims that the ISFC recieve, Im guessing it will.

By all means us anglers are not against a small charge for this service but to be fair alot of people simply dont have €50 of disposable cash these days.
