Clew Bay Species

#1 Post by Potatonator »

Hi lads,
I'm not only new to this website but new to fishing
I live in Mulranny, and was wondering about any species of fish i could catch from anywhere in Clew bay.
Having read books my favourite species are Pollack, Wrasse, Sea Bream and Sea Trout.

PM's Or Posts would be grand
Many thanks
:D :)

Welcome to SAI Potatonator.

Check if the Conservation Order for Sea Trout applies to Clew Bay. I've an idea that it does, which means that all Sea Trout must be returned alive.

Pollock and Wrasse you should find no bother at all. Doubt if there's any Bream about that area. Should be plenty of dogfish though, and Thornback Ray too, especially if you go afloat. Also, Common Skate if that sort of thing straightens your string, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if you started posting catch reports for Bullhuss too.

I've only fished Clew Bay a couple of times, and that was boat angling targeting Common Skate, no doubt more local and experienced anglers can tell you more.

Thanks lads, :D
What would the best bait or lure for Wrasse and Pollack be then?

Would the rocks by the side of the Mulranny pier be a good spot for them?

Thanks
