There is a fair bit of sea trout fishing done in and around strangford and little or no bass caught. If bass where there in any numbers you would pick them up on sea trout tactics..... im sure it has been done but you are talking needle in a hay stack stuff. Give it a go and let us know

my sentiments exactly.
have never fished it but from what i gather, and from what ive heard about the sort of fishing it offers, then wooler has stated it exactly.
think KERRY1 and her fishing buddies are from that area and fish it quite a bit (?). pretty sure anyway. think a PM would be in order...
just do a 'search for author' from the search option at the top of the page. you should find a post by her and then be able to click on sending her a PM..
hope this helps!
would love to head down that way and target trout and 'bass', if they were about :)
lets us know how you get on.....
Charlie

Cheers guys,

Yeah I've been watching (and joining!) the sea trout anglers but that fishing tends to be restricted to particular areas. I was wondering if anyone has targeted the less orthodox spots on the Lough that might be more suited to the odd bass? There's plenty of reefs, rocky outcrops and sandbars that just scream bass and i wonder is the lack of catches simply due to a lack of fishing?

Thanks chuckaroo, I'll give KERRY1 and those guys a buzz. I am living beside Strangford now but fishing it has been tricky. Very hit and miss with more misses that hits :(

Does anyone know or is anyone trying the new specialist approaches to bass in the area? Plugging off boat/shore etc?

Yeah, I know a guy who plugs Strangford. He reckons he gets fish too. But since I've not yet fished that area with him, I can't give any first hand experiences on it. I've fished in other parts of Ireland with him for Bass and can say this for sure: He knows how to plug and fly, so I've no reason to doubt he's getting Bass there too.

Thanks Tanglerat! Good to hear there are some specialist anglers targeting fish here. Big boost to the confidence that! Will be having a cast or two over the weekend so will let you all know how I get on. I recon a bit/a lot of patience with subsurface lures over those shallow reefs might just pay off...:)
