Took a few days off work to do a bit of a fishing trip for the first week of october.
Plan is to camp out maybe two nights and have been thinking about trying somewhere like jacks hole in brittas.
Was chattin to a lad yesterday and he told me if you go down past brittas there is a place (cant remember the name but it sounds like anne o'reilly) or he also recommended kilcoole.
Just wondering if anyone has some recommendations.
I am looking for somewhere that will be quiet, good for camping with some good fishing in october. any suggestions ?
That beach is ennereilly. its about 10mins past brittas bay. Not the most sheltered beach around for camping but if the weather is on your side its fine. Havnt fished it this year at all but threw up some nice fish for us last year.
Kilcoole is full of dogfish from my experience so i try to avoid it but maybe others have had better luck.
October can be a good time for big bass so maybe target them down around wexford/waterford area?
Think Chris is organising a trip for afew days round then if ye want to come along give us a shout.

This is always a bit of a sticky issue but as I understand it the notion of a private beach in Ireland is a bit misleading as the foreshore between the high and low watermarks is incapable of ownership, it belongs to the state and cannot be owned, or at least that is what we were always thought in our law lectures. You can only own land above the high spring tide line and everything below it is public property. There are Foreshore licences which allow people to build on or use the foreshore in some way but that's a separate issue. Anyway even though you cannot own the beach itself or more specifically the foreshore you can own the access to it and thereby prevent people from getting to it however in fact they have a right to be there should the succeed in getting to it without trespassing on private land. So to answer your question my understanding of the legal side to this is that if you access the beach from the water or even along the foreshore then you have a right to be there as it is public property. However I'm not a solicitor so I'm open to correction on that but from what I remember that's the general gist of it, anyway its all covered in the Foreshore Act anyway but it is a bit wordy.
But I suppose if ya dont want hassle and the thoughts of an idiot ruining your fishin trip there are plenty of ideal locations around that area

Sorry, should of explained.............its the access to the beach that is private - however on larger tides the beach fills right to the top, so realistically there is nowhere to camp.
Don’t mean to be an a-hole or anything, but Brittas/Ennerielly is about 30 mins drive from Cabinteely, why camp?
If you’re going to go to the effort of camping, you may as well head to somewhere where you are in with a better than average chance of catching some good fish. If it blows hard easterly or NE/SE you’ll be goosed with weed.
South Wexford will be good on decent conditions. Some of the south western peninsulas will be fishing well and give you a good mix of beach, rock & estuary fishing. Then you have out west for ray, turbot, trout etc. in some spectacular scenery.
opps my bad sorry I'd go to ennrielly then but unless you have a storm tent it wouldnt be a good time ....was hopin to go there myself but the latest weather forecast dont look good..... thursday seems the best day, friday is supposed to be bad (still waiting for that breeze to blow the weed off!) , I've heard good things from toberpatrick on the up side, and the last drive i did there, spoted lovely little coves all around there , but wouldnt know there names it just be a question of trying to park the car near enough that you could fish in peace, another suggestion I could throw into the pot is have a look at the weed watch for the area your thinking of ... whatever ya decided I'm looking forward to hearing the report !!!!!!!

there's a spot just after arklow called kilpatrick you can camp and its great for bass i was there last week and some good bass and smothhound all falling to peeler crab and lug

kilpatrick is just another name for toberpatrick but it is a good spot and very handy for camping have had some good results from there this year
