whiting in summer?

does anybody know if you can catch whiting in the summer :?:
i always thought they were a winter fish but now i'm hearing about people catching them in the summer

we got some good ones last night.easily over the 30cm and bulky

We had a match to raise money for cancer wednesday night past and we had 7 whiting marked in, all around 25 cm. The 2 I had took lumps of bait on 2/0's intended for dogs.
2011. codling, schoolie bass (4!), smoothie( 1 pup!), tb ray, whiting, coalie, pollack, flounder, dab, plaice (small),wrasse, grey gurnard,lsd, huss, goby, cuckoo wrasse,pout,3 bearded rockling and 5 bearded rockling. red & tub gurnard, spurs and conger afloat. black bream and painted ray in jersey.(on my honeymoon!)
2012. codling,coalie,whiting,flounder,3 bearded rockling,five bearded rockling, dab,wrasse,conger,lsd,pollack,s.s sea scorpion,t.b ray,tub gurnard, corkwing wrasse,plaice,huss,smoothhound,cuckoo wrasse

I got a load of good ones at Carnlough the other week. Double-shots of almost pounders and to be honest it's been a few years since i've had them that size.

Many species are displaying abnormal behavior in the last 5 years. In 2010 I caught mackeal 1 wk before the weather was -12 C
