I'm looking to spend a few pound on a half decent mullet rod/reel set-up and am looking a bit of advice. at the minute im using light but decent 11ft spinning rod with a 4000 size front drag reel but find it a bit heavy for use with the small float gear.
I've read plenty that suggests an avon/Barbel type rod with 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lb test curve but are there any in particular that i should look at? also with regards a reel a smooth drag seems to be the main necessity again any particular size or type?
Most of the marks i fish involve a bit of a dander and clambering through bushes to get to so i tend to carry the bare minimum and ideally am looking one rod/reel combo which will cover legering and float work (if thats possible).
any advice would be appreciated !

if you go to heavy you wount be able to cast the likes of bread flake
any of the avon type rods or a medium feeder rod advantage of both is that they come with different tips and you can change to suit conditions
hope this helps

Re: Advice on Mullet rod/Reel combo?
have tried a few of my rods for mullet , as you will be casting light out fit and using light line i found a drennen carp pellet waggler is idea . has the perfect action to cast and has the back bone to play powerful fish , line rating is ideal ideas at 5 to 8lbs so you get less hook pulls then you would get from using a stiffer rod with higher line rating. its aslo ultra light as you can be holding it for a long time waiting on a take. match this rod with a 4000 shimano technium or similair with 6 or 8lbs maxima clear line and u have winning combo in my opinion .
