Crookhaven, west cork.

#1 Post by syboit »

People: Myself and Nephew

Duration: a few days , and a couple of hours each

Tide: High

Weather: Sunny to overcast

Bait: Feathers, lugworm and fresh mackerel

Rigs: Feathers and bottom rig

Results: Mackerel, Dabs, Flounder, Dogfish, pollocks, whiting and first ray

Report:

We fished around Crookhaven for a few days while the weather was so nice. A nice variety of fish landed, with some nice sizes pollock's upto 3lb. Plenty of mackerel on some days, sparts nearly jumping out of the water, would be a maccie bashers heaven.

Even landed my first Ray and nephew had his first few dogfish :)

A few pics of our catches and a pic of the bottom rig we used (thanks to the guys in the cobh SAC, picking up some tips from them)

This is a doggie for sure, a small bull huss can look at first glance like a lesser spotted dogfish, however the nasal flaps in the huss are clearly separated and the rear of the anal fin is in line with the front of the first dorsal plus the husses spots are much bigger and placed more apart from each other.
