Whats the most accurate tide predicter

#1 Post by Tom Maher »

A couple of months ago i had to submit a date for the 2nd leg of the Munster closed 2012
i used http://www.mobilegeographics.com:81/loc ... 2&m=3&d=10 because nothing else was available, it shows 2012-03-10 7:08 PM GMT 3.95 meters High Tide
Slightly big for a beach, but promising
Got the monthly letter from the Munster council, notices etc
This included the 2012 tides from the Irish sailing association
Their prediction shows 4.5m at 18:52

Bit annoyed that the tides weren't provided, but thats not the point

Which is more accurate?

easytide is good but it only gives the next 7 days for free. outside the 7 days its £10 for 15 predictions.
another thing with easytide is it doesnt automaticly use bst, you need to change it to +1 hour yourself if its within the bst dates

Hi Tom
I have been using this for a while now and it is pretty good. Added advantage is that it is for 2 years. You just select the date code on the back and it references a number on the dial on the front. Select the number on the dial & coast colour and this indicates the Tide high and low times... It also specifies spring tides and extra high/low spring tides.

this dosnt look very accurate for instance the area around cork is all red up as far as waterford area their must be a difference of a few hours in the tides from one end of the red section to the other :?: :?: :?:

Its a guide and has been working for me, if you want exact times, then I suggest you use local tide tables for the area.

Seems to me that the accuracy from different sources can vary too much from month to month. Went down to get some razor this morning; aggregating predictions of .4 meters from the Irishtimes, .5 from Easytides and .3 from ISA I thought it would be worth a shot. Only managed to get 10 razor, the beds were never fully uncovered. Easytides .5 meters was, by the looks of it, bang on for height. Not really worth getting up at 5, grand morning though it was ;)

Lesson learnt; it's probably best not to rely on one source

it was a 0.28 tide this morning by dublin port tide table a good tide for razor HOWEVER the wind was blowing along the beach keeping the water up a bit futher than it should have been i managed 75 razor in 60 minutes well worth getting up early  if it had have been a westerly breeze i prob would have got 150 to 200 but for 1 euro worth of salt i wont complain

I doubt there is anything that will predict the tide accurately, there are plenty of reference guides available either online or in booklet form, but none of them will be accurate due to weather conditions, High pressure's, low pressures and wind directions can dramatically change what the height a tide will be.

for referencing I use navionics marine:UK - Holland on my phone and gives tides until 2018, as well as current flow, wind direction and sea charts.. well worth its weight in gold :D

No tide books for 2012 that i could find yet.

The mobilegraphics seems to have similar results to other sites - its just the fact that there was such a difference that was bothering me

www.magicseaweed.com is the best I have ever used for surf reports and wind direction.
Very handy to check before you head for a mark.
