new pb tope greystones

#1 Post by mitch »

People:me dermot and ian

Duration:4 to 9 pm

Tide:rising

Weather fantastic :

Bait:fishing impossible

Results: mack and tope

Report: it was a great day, sun was shining no wind .we left harbour and headed up oppisite n/beach
for macks ,lines were droped and straight into macks ,within 15 min we had plenty for bait ,so we motored out
to moulditch boy and anchored up and got lines into the water

Tide run was just nice ,so i decided to ground bait with some of the macks ,and we didn't have to long to wait ,
first off was my brother dermot with a fine fish of 40 lb ,soon after he got another run and landed another so i droped
my gear over the side ,it had only hit the bottom and i got a hit ,only a small fish around 20 lb ,dermots was about 30
at this stage ashley was close by and got a few photos

Later as the boat began the to swing with the tide i decided to freeline a mackerel ,and sure enough i got a run ,and i
knew it was special ,the tope stayed deep and ran and ran staying deep after 15 min and nerves shattered we saw colour
  all i could here was look nat the fcuking size of that :D the two lads got the fish first time and i couldn't get over the size of it :P :P ashley hayden will stick up photos

The experience tope fishing off Greystones yesterday afternoon is the reason why I and so many people go fishing. To see nature first hand and get caught unawares by fishy behaviour, such as a 40.lb tope swimming up from 60 feet down following your whole mackerel bait only to take the bait at the side of the boat, incredible.

Then to hear the Mitchell brothers reels zzzzzzzzing simultaneously as two tope hit their boat, and the whoops and laughs as the battles proceeded, you had to be there.

A special evening, I have posted my own memories on, http://www.anirishanglersworld.com.

Well done Gerry, that fish is huge, easily 60.lb+. At seasons end it will be one of the fish of the year given its %age weight of the Irish record, which it might even have beaten. Great stuff.
