Wicklow Beach , 20-7-11

#1 Post by eyesreilly »

People:me, Fishface, Mitch, Roger

Duration:me; 6-30pm-11pm

Tide:static

Weather:dry, slight northerly breeze, cloudy

Bait:crab, rag,

Rigs:pulley rig and 2 hook flapper

Results:me; Plaice, Flounder, Gurnard
Mitch; Smoothound  Fishface; , Roger will tell his own story

Report:Stuck in all week so I decided to hit the beach for a crack at the smoothies. I bought 20 rag just in case the smoothies werent about  There was a fine body of men on the beach when I arrived and Fishface was unpacking his car. We had to trek down the bottom end of the beach as space was at a premium. It was Neils' birthday, so Mitch had kindly carried all his gear down , as I'm sure he would for any elderly gentleman  . Neil had a light load walking down so he carried my stool , which weighs nearly half a kilo  . We got set up and I had a plaice on my first cast, on rag. The crab on the other rod went untouched, and stayed that way all evening, until I caught a small gurnard. I was overjoyed but the rest of them were unimpressed  . They were only interested in smoothies  . Roger arrived , a man after my own heart, and set about catching fish, any fish  , and soon had a Dab. He also landed 2 rigs, complete with 2 x 6oz weights attached  . The rain stayed away and it was a lovely evening, but Smoothieless until Mitch, who cant stop catching fish these days, saved the day and landed a nice one  . The odd thing is that the tide was very slow rising, and seemed to just stay where it was  . I got a good bang on my distance rod and struck in , but the fish dropped the bait unfortunately  . It was time to go for me as an early start beckoned and I said my goodbyes. Roger had a good night after we left but i'll let him tell his story and fill in the gaps if he wants   . As it was Neils birthday I wont mention that he blanked  , but at least he had some younger anglers to help him carry his gear( dont mention it Neil  , and happy significant birthday  , you dont look it  )
ps,,,,there wasnt much weed about in South Wicklow
