clare dragoon, carrigaholt, 21/7/11

#1 Post by jw »

People: jw plus 4 lads

Duration: 0900-1730

Tide: high at 930

Weather: nw F4

Bait: mackerel, rags

Rigs: wire traces, muppets, cedar plugs

Results: tope, mackerel , pollack coalie poor cod, ballans, cuckoo, cod

Report: tope are a plentiful and easy fish to catch in the shannon, the problem
is they turn their noses up at frozen or stale mackerel and it has been largely impossible
to get fresh mackerel up to now. At last the mackerel can now be picked up steadily on
the beal bar and we caught this 25 pounder. apparently it is still possible to do
a shark or tope trip without getting a specimen :-)

this ballan has used up 2 of his 7 lives

we spent a bit of time trolling muppets and cedar plugs up and down the north clare coast, didnt get
any tuna, might be fun to try this in the deep ocean water some day

Great stuff JW,

Only just seen - the picture of the Tope has given me the incentive to pull my finger out and get some fishing in :D :D :D Happy days, just ordered a new prop which should arrive before the weekend, cant wait to get back on the water,

Might see yous down there the weekend.
