Fahan beach monday 11th July

People:me, weedave, his missus and weedaves mate

Duration:8pm to half 1am ish

Tide:

Weather:lovely

Bait:sandeels, squid and mackeral

Rigs:2 hook flappers

Results:rays, dogs and a gurnard




Report:weedave invited me to go for a ray session on monday night down in donegal, i couldnt resist as i was dyning to catch my first ray.
got down and set up and there was 2 other fellas there fishing on the beach. got set up with 2 rods with a mixture of baits on the rods to try a bit of everything. not much a doing for the first 2 hours of the night with a few doggies making an appearance and the tide, which was suppost to be filling, still hadnt moved an inch.
as the evening wore on weedave got the first ray of the evening! a cracking one it was too, first time i had ever seen one up close!
landed my first fish of th evening with a nice wee doggie, my first of the year as well. next cast i rebaited on both rods and just as i had recast the second rod i got a massive bite which pulled the rod off the stand. pulled it in and there it was, my first ray! weighted in at 4lbs so i was well happy!! the ray took a single bait of squid on its own.
not much a more happened the rest of the evening with a few doggies getting landed and we decided to leave after half one in the morning leaving the long drive home.
got home after half 2 in the morning tired and very happy.
2011 species (16) - Flounder, Coalies, Pollock, sand eel, Wrasse, Sea Trout, dogfish, thornback ray, Whiting, Red Gurnard, Codling, Grey gurnard, pouting, Mackeral, Turbot, Plaice

targets for 2011 - Bass, sea trout and big cod! - Scratch one! Sea Trout Down!

good to see you got your rays lads. dave missed out on the trip to wicklow with us at the weekend. loads of smoothies were had :mrgreen: but there's always next time man :wink: :D

Result Pol, 4lb ray a cracking fish on the beach. Never had one off the shore myself but it might come soon, they seem to be popping up here now too. Will keep you posted, you might give it a try here closer to home yourself?
2013 Sea Species:- Bass, Flounder, 5 Beard Rockling, Shore Rockling, Whiting, red gurnard, grey gurnard, Pollack, coley, mackerel, sea trout, cant remember cos I didn't update at the time.....
2012 Sea species:- Pollack, Coley, Mackerel, Cod, Bass, Sea Trout, Haddock, Plaice, Dab, Flounder, Red Gurnard, Grey Gurnard, Pouting, Whiting, Corkwing Wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, Lesser Spotted Dogfish, Brown Trout caught on beach.
2011 Sea species:- codling, L.S. dogfish, coley, whiting, pollack(4lb 3oz), sea trout, shore conger eel (15lb), ballan wrasse, grey gurnard, plaice, dab (and lobster).

lol he was disappointed at missing out on that one! he had to make do in taking me out instead :lol:

lol good fishing did you hear aabout the guy swimming and died at rathmullun, fished there that night and ppl were caught mass amounts of mackeral

seen that in the news, very sad indeed.
