Off the surface 10jul11

#1 Post by razor2 »

People:Me

Duration:19:30-20:30

Tide:HW-01:30am

Weather:Calm and sunny

Bait:Lures

Results:1 Bass

Report:
Went out for a quick one today while i told the wife i was going to walk the dog  From the off the bass were on the plug a surface plug never used one before could see the bass moving fast in the small surf after the plug.Had about four attacks on the plug before hooking one not sure if thats the norm to miss so many on a surface plug because i have never used one before but would be interested to know if anyone can tell me.Kept hopping it along the surface, then like a rocket from my left he nailed it came out of the water a bit and off he went. Got him in and a nice handy bass about 6lb they cant half move when they want . big change from the bait fishing when you cant see the take but a great hour.

Fine fish. I have found that bass often miss the poppers. The hook up rate with subsurface lures is definitely higher. However, the fun of the chase on a popper is unbelievable!!

Lovely fish off the surface Ray, have to agree with Stan, you will have a little less hookups on the surface but thats more than made up for by watching the bass hit the lure... pure adrenaline 8) 8)

Lovely fish well done Ray. Isn't 'walk the dog' a type of retrieve used with surface lures - so maybe you were tellin the truth all along :)

Ray when you get hits like that and no hook ups try stop reeling in for a few seconds then retieve quickly its nerve racking stuff but can work at times. Also if using lures with plenty of follows but no takers change to the craziest lure in the box again it can trigger a take at the last second, pure madness
