conger rod

#1 Post by biker »

right lads im looking to get a rod to go after some conger from shore , i was looking at a boat rod graded for 30 - 50 lbs but after thinking about it thats a bit over kill isnt it ?? i will only be fishing from shore so it will NOT double up as a boat rod or anything, would a heavy spinning rod be more suitable or something for up 30 lbs !?! any suggestions welcome

Depends where from the shore you intend to try for congers i use a heavy beachcaster for most of my shore congering so any beachcaster that can be used as a rock rod will do i only use a boat rod if im fishing for them at my feet or inbetween gaps where there is big boulders hope this helps. :)

If you are fishing from a pier or rocks have plenty of shock leader on the reel.
It can be used to lift the fish out of the water thus taking the strain off the tip of the rod.

well ill be using it both off pier and off the rocks ! so im guessing that something lik a 9 foot uptide rod might be best, i would lik to be able to cast out a bit alright and just leave it sit there when im on the rocks which i cudnt do on the boat rod ! also would i be better off with a multiplier as opposed to a fixed spool ?? or would that make a diference at all
