People:Me and fishy 1987
Duration:too long
Tide:all stages
Weather:hot, dry and only slight breeze
Bait:fresh and frozen crab, mack
Rigs:Flappers, 2 hook clipped downs, pulley pennels
Results:dogs, dab, whiting, tub gurnard, smoothy pups
Me and fishy decided it was time to get out first smoothies so we packed the car and headed for wexford. First stop was youghal for loads of crab, thanks to john (buoy32). After stocking up on bait we hit the road and landed into courtown at about 3 o clock. Popped into courtown angling for a chat and a few bits and pieces of tackle. We decided on ballymoney after checking out the mark so we set up the gear in daylight for a few relaxed casts, biding our time till darkness came down. We had a dab each before heading to the car for a bite to eat and to pick up the rest of the gear. We went back down to the beach for the long session that lay ahead of us. Set up 2 rods each with clipped downs and pulley pennels. Fishy was the first into a fish and landed his first ever hound, only a pup but we were delighted all the same. I pulled one in next and was delighted to see my first ever pup grace the beach with his presence. Fishy was next in with a tub gurnard, i told him it was a grey but on looking closer at the photo i'm sure it's a tub. I had a whiting next that did not fair up too well to whatever attacked it while on the hook. Half it's face was bitten off. Fishy had a dog at some later stage, it was getting late so things were a bit hazey. I had 2 more pup hounds along the way too. We retreated to the car at 3.30am and had an hours kip. Back up at 5.15am and we were back on the beach by 5.45am. We had a few casts with me hitting a dog on the first and a dab on the second but the weed was really bad so we decided it wasn't to be. We had some crab left over so we said we'd fish somewhere on the way home. Landed on ferry point at 11 o clock and set one rod up each in the search of flounders. Another beautiful day to be out but the fish didn't show. I set up my other rod with just a lead and did a bit of casting practice which is when i encountered the worst crack off and birds next i've ever constructed. Anyway, lovely weather, the smoothies are ticked off the list, and we enjoyed the weekend overall. Pitty the bigger fish didn't show but that's just how it goes sometimes.

Re: sat 02 and sun 03 Wexford
Lovely weekend you had there guys I would have really enjoyed that myself, especially with the nice mix of species and good weather. Well done on the smoothies they're a lovely looking fish and I wish I could get some myself instead of the non-stop LSDs that plague almost every session. I wouldn't be surprised if one swam up my toilet and bit me on the arse, lol.

Cheers dave. Fishy1987 was absolutely plagued by dog fish last month as well. They're grand sometimes to save the blank but when you can't stop catching them it get's a bit annoying. Cork harbour seems to be full of them at the moment.dave316 wrote:Lovely weekend you had there guys I would have really enjoyed that myself, especially with the nice mix of species and good weather.
