have been searching the forum but i couldnt find the answer im looking for. headin out from wexford fishing for tope for the first time and was wondering about how to strike when fishing tope. do u allow the bite materialise for a few seconds or strike as soon as its touched. if anyone can help me on this that would be great

This is down to personal choice but personally I do not strike, but allow the fish to carry the bait for a while until it runs and then lift in to the fish allowing it to hook itself. I did strike a few seasons ago but found I had more dropped runs. I believe I was striking it from the fish. Hope this help.

I like using circle hooks, I wait for the second run then slowly tighten the drag to set the hook, right in the scissors :mrgreen:
