rathmullen pier 25-5-2011

People:myself,herself,MC

Duration:
all day
Tide:bad neap

Weather:windy but dry

Bait:fishbait mainly

Rigs:heavy pullys,tope rigs

Results:myself - 11 thornies 4.5lbs-7.5lbs,1 dog,1 flounder, herself 3 thornies 3lb-5lb,1 dog, MC-9 thornies 3lb-5.5lbs,1 spotted ray 3lbs,2 dogs

Report:the 3 of us hit the piuert early sat morning hoping to beat the bashers laned there nobody there only hamper we had was the pier gate was locked but got the car down later on,
we est up and got fishing from the start ray showed none of the biggies that are there but good fighting fish none the less,

myself and MC caught steadly mostr of the morning with herself suffering with an odd 1 now and again she was'nt a happy camper,the odd dog appeared but for once they were'nt a plague,
i set up a tope outfit just a heavy drop down rig with some wire and stuck a sardine on it and hit the hole with and left it i got 1 run but it was dropped

we conbtinued with ray then MC got a nice wee spotty ray,

i set up for mackeral but nothing showing so stuck small baits on the bottem 3 hooks and got a small flounder and a dog ,
MC had to go and a few of the SAI boys appeared and they started to catch from the start and seemed to enjoy themselves nice bunch of lads hope you had a good night on the pier,we packed up around 11pm been a long day from 8am,

Well done mate, that's a fantastic session and great results for the Mrs. too (puts some of the so-called top guys to shame, lol). They do fight pretty well, a lot better than I expected.

No they are different species, although juvenile blondes may appear similar, easiest way to distinguish them is: spots go right to the edge of the wings on a blonde ray but do not on the spotted, otherwise known as a homelyn ray.

No they're definately different species, the Juvenile blondes can look like spotted all right, but the blondes grow a lot bigger.

the fishing was good the craic as alway was great, forgot the time and missed my cut off time for the sai meet, was into a nice ray at the time for the ferry :shock: What fishingquinn forgot to say was at the time i left i had him beaten by two rays :lol: so i get the bragging rigths, Sorry i miss Drew and crew would have been nice to finally meet you, next time lads

Cheers drew shes only been fishing since we started going out last year shes very keen and competitive to say the least ,no doubt we'll meet somewhere again give me a shout anytime ur my way

cheer zud shame the ray didnt get into double figures its 1 of the best places to get a big ray into the teens

Nice ray. Well done. Lovely little spotted there too. Good to see the ray dropping off the next generation too.
