West Cork, June 23
People: Just me
Duration: 9.30-10.30pm
Tide: flooding (HW 11.30pm or thereabouts)
Weather: Overcast, dry, cool
Bait: Lures
Results: 1 5lb bass
Report: Thought I'd throw up a report as I got my first bass of the year last night and all things considered it had been a while coming.
Have been out in earnest a few times since the ban was up, but conditions haven't been brilliant and had nothing to show for my efforts. The long evenings make it easier to get out as I can sneak out the door once the smallie is in bed, and that's exactly what I did last night, despite protestations from the couch (girlfriend and dog alike).
Wanted to fish into darkness at a rock mark I was shown last year, and despite fishing a good few times have never had any success at. However it has a good reputation and stays a lot clearer of weed compared to other local options, so I have persevered with it.
Got to mark and water was a lot clearer than recent trips, flogged it with a shallow running lure for a while but no joy, moved spots and switched to a soft to get a little bit deeper.... anyway just as the sun sank over the far side of the bay and the sky turned golden rose in colour I found myself attached to an angry bass. Came in easy enough until she got a glimpse of me and then took off like a train, nearly pulling me into the drink. Long story short, got her on the bank, weighed, snapped and back in to grow a bit.
Didn't stay long after that, gave it a few more casts but was happy to head home and walk the dog, having done what I set out to do.
pic isn't great, combination of low light/camera phone/blind panic.
thanks

Re: West Cork, June 23
cheers all, itching to get back out again now, especially after reading that WSF report from the guy that was on holidays down here... Fair play to him, he caught more bass in a week than I've had in a lifetime.

Re: West Cork, June 23
Funny thing was, I had a bit of a job landing the fish. Got it to the edge of the rocks and managed to get a thumb grip on its jaw, hoisted it out and as soon as I had my hand out of its gob and was holding it securely, the fish looked me straight in the eye and said:
"Are you Rockhunter?"
