peelers ?
Depends when you plan to use them. I normally just freeze them
In an old bait box if I'm using them within a few days. I'd never really have them more then a few weeks frozen and I've never had a problem this way. I normally try wait until they are about to pop when the shell is right up their backs before I'd freeze them.

Re: peelers ?
prime time to freeze them is after they pop the backs and if you want to keep them for weeks you must take out the lungs as these will destroy the crab with bacteria even when frozen
I have not fished in two years hoping to change that this year with anything ?

Re: peelers ?
The Worst time to freeze them is after they pop ! Water content % is far higher and they don't freeze as well.
Frozen peelers do not need the Lungs removed (This is an angling Myth)
Lungs in all crab go Toxic approx 2 hours after they die.
Frozen Crab are either alive or dead minutes when they are put into freezer, they do not get the opportunity to decay.
Most anglers as a habit will remove lungs from fresh Crab before use, this again is not necessary.
Next time you gut a fish and find Crab in their Stomach check them, i guarantee all the crab will have been swallowed whole LUNGS intact.
One of the best Crab baits for bass is a Peeler crushed in the hand and bound to the Hook, (Shell & Lungs Intact)
