Weight of plugs or lures

Hi Lads

On my first mark yesterday I saw a lad spinning of the rocks with a lovely surf coming onto a north dublin beach not ofton fished near a nice hotel that services a lovely pint of stout over looking lambay island and howth!!!!!! after a long slog back to the car :P :P 8) . I got talking to him and he told me that apart from the weed he saw a few Bass follow his plugs as he was using a few and it was amazing how light he traveled

The question that I am asking is what is the ideal weight for plugs, lures spinners etc and how far would they need to be cast out from the rocks and is there some that work better that others.. and how much would I expect to pay for them.... guess a light spinning rod bout 9ft long with light gear would be good fun

Any advice would be very welcome......

You'll be sorted in any fishing shop you go into! There's no point ordering online for a cheap spinning rod as the price won't be much different than the shop. Any spinning rod suitable for 8 - 12 lb line should be adequate for your needs. Prices start as low as €18 for the rod, and €18 for the reel. Surface poppers can be got for as little as €5 and can be brilliant for the bass!

€60 would get a decent spinning rod i think its ian golds salmon rod. casts brilliantly and has survived me for a couple of years.

you could go really light and try a trout rod you can pick up one of them at a reasonable price.
