Smoothound Pup Or Tope Pup??

#1 Post by Larry 90 »

Me and a friend went fishing a North Wexford Beach The Weekend quite uneventful until dark and we start catching theese ive caught smoothies before it just all the pups ive caught their noses arent like this! And im nearly sure that they had teeth which i know smoothies dont! I was unsure so we took a quick photo and off he went! 2 or 3 Whole "party squid" and frozen black lug was what they were taking! this cocktail seemed to get a good bite every time and Rag and sandeel went untouched! We got nothing else not even a flounder and i was thinking these lads had scared everything away! :) I said id ask could anyone here give a second opinion :)

Thanks Larry

Insert index finger into mouth of fish in question, teet = tope. For larger specimens insert index finger into mouth of fish in question, if index finger comes back squashed and mangled it's a smoothy if index finger is missing it would be a tope :P

You can also tell by the shape and look of the nose of ya wanna keep your fingers. Although I don't think one that size would do much damage.
