Re: pollock fishing
Try using a small strip of mackerel on the hook alongside the jellyworm.Make sure the jellyworm tail is not being obstructed by the mackerel strip. Sometimes the silver strip is best, othertimes a darker strip works. Play around until you find what is catching fish for you. You will also catch a number of other species with a baited hook. Hope this helps and good fishing!

Re: pollock fishing
Hi There
Black jelly worms usually work well. But at certain times other jelly lures work alot better. It depends what they are feeding on. I find the green small fish lures and coloured jelly worms can make all the difference. Dont underestimate feathers they can out fish all lures at times.
Also pollock are attracted by movement so retrive at a good swift pace. Not very fast but certainly not slow and never leave the lure hit the bottom, you run the risk of getting snagged.
Certain marks have holes which can be full of pollock. Through your lure around and test the area. Keep changing lures and feathers if things are not working out.
The drilled barrel lead about two feet above your lure can give you plenty weight to cast it doesnt sink to fast and it leaves the lure looking natural with plenty movement in the water. This is by far the best thing to use when spinning for pollock.
Let me know how you get on

Re: pollock fishing
Possible a little bit early in the year for the bigger pollock especially with the May weather, half an hour either side of dusk is prime time for pollock.
You want your firetail jelly worm spun just above the kelp where the pollock are hiding waiting to ambush their targets, once you find the speed of retrieve that does this you will be in the right zone.

Re: pollock fishing
Just adding to this with a few tips of my own mate.
Have found rag worm is good early in season and and when the fry and sandeels are about I will use lures etc. Have big pollock on everything, spinning. Float fishing with rag or mackerel and leggering with squid.
Charlotte took a 8.9lb and a 6.6lb one on bait and one on lure from Same spot.
Try everything and see what works where.

Re: pollock fishing
another method if you can gauge the depth of the kelp, try using a bubble float with a 3-4ft trace with your jelly worm rigged texas style with the hook point not shown, this set up will help you present the jelly just above the kelp on your retrieve and wont get snagged, once a fish take the jelly the hook point will come out and hook him.
4th pic down on the right show what i mean
http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/guides/texasrig.html
alternatively leave out the bubble float and just rig the worm as the link shows, it weedless to an extent so helps alot.
another tip - one single hook on the split ring and not a treble - one the fish is hooked there is no other points to snag on.

Re: pollock fishing
just adding a lil bit myself i find the clackin lures to be excellent for pollock!!!! they have serious action in the water, there is a feather on the tail, and also the rattle of course, also use a sink a retrieve technique for this as some body said aswell make sure u dont hit the bottom as the risk of getting snagged!!!!!!!!!!

Good to read all that advice! Have only landed the odd small pollack myself using feathers so going to try a few of the tactics mentioned above...

Re: pollock fishing
try using a frozen sandell with a 2/0 hook and a couple of large split shot about a foot away this methot has served me well over the years i find it works better than lures and freathers as it is a natural bait

Re: pollock fishing
yea man i was using the sand eel on 3/0 hook and caught 3 pollock on that, biggest was still just under 2 lbs ! there was 2 other lads on the other side of the rock using feathers and they told me they were catching pollock aswel, i was kinda annoyed that im here taking time riging up all my baits ect and there getting the same results on feathers lol but when they saw my pollock they said it was massive compared to theirs, so it pays off alright ! want to catch a 5 pounder this summer !!
