Thinking of bringing the 7 year old out over the weekend. Heading for Dun Laoighre as its a nice safe platform for him to fish off. I don't fish it too often. Had a bit of success there before with floats near the band stand and plan on doing some float fishing again as it's the best thing for keeping his attention. Any recommendations on which pier is fishing better at the moment. He likes to go through the whole tackle bag trying out all the spinners so might try for a few pollock also. Happy to get a pm on this.
Thanks

Re: Dun Laoighre
I've had success fishing at the 1st elbow up from the bandstand, and there are handy steps down to the waters edge for landing any bigger fish.
Float fish strips of mackerel or feathers out into the harbour for a chance of mackerel and garfish, or float fish down at the waters edge with small pieces of rag on size 6 hooks for wrasse, or you can ledger small rag baits aswell down the side.
Good fun, you should catch a few fish and there are a few bigger wrasse down there aswell.

Re: Dun Laoighre
Spent my youth down there and it was always float with strips of mackeral or squid inside the harbour and feathers and spinners outside the harbours. YOu need a good enough cast for spinning outside as it is very snaggy. Not ideal for a seven year old either.

I fished the west pier for about half an hour on sat while the missus was taking photo's.
Had 3 half pound pollock on rag float fished. Also I've had pollock and mac spinning into the harbour with taz devil's.
