A few of us are going down to dingle for the weekend and we're hoping to do a bit of fishing. The reason i'm thinking the pier would be handy is because i'll be fishing with 3 others that don't fish or can't fish so it would be easier to go to a pier rather than rocks or beach. Also i've a pretty full car on the way down so i'm trying to keep gear to a minimum. No tri pods or any unnecessary items. Just a bucket of bait, a few leads and a couple of rigs. Can anyone tell me what can be caught down there at this time of year. It the ground around there clean or rough. Also is there a certain place to fish out on the pier. I'm thinking of mack and sand eel as bait. Any advice will be taken on board. I'm not too pushed about massive catches as long as there's something gracing our hooks the lads will be more than happy. Is there a bait shop down in dingle town as well.
Cheers,
Tight lines,
Evan

There is Garveys sports shop in the main street on the front that sells frozen mackerel , sandeels. As for what to catch if you fish anywhere around the marina with a good lump of mackerel with a strong hook and a short length of wire there are plenty of conger eels to be had some of them are very big. We have also had thornbacks inside the marina whilst targetting congers. There are a lot of ballan wrasse if you fish up tight to the boulders and rocks that edge the marina , had ballans here to 3.5lb but for these you will need crab or worm baits. There are a multitude of smaller species ( gobbies , goldsinny wrasse , pouting , poor cod , eels , scorpion fish etc) that inhabit the rocks if you use small hooks ie size6 or 8 and bait again with crab or worm. Fish with a float and a small strip of silver mackerel for bait and you can catch Mackerel , maybe garfish if they are about and small pollock / pouting. Good luck , let us know how you get on.
