South Kerry Shore / Rock

#1 Post by Iasclover »

Hi there,

Long time lurker, first time poster so regards to all.
Am in the Waterville area at the weekend and as bass season is closed i am interested in mackerel or pollack if anyone can suggest any safe accessible marks as opposed to the infamous one on Valentia Island.
Intend spinning and /or feathers.

Weather looks like it wont be too bad too :D

Would appreciate any recommendations

Cheers
JohnJo

There are a couple of places near Waterville that you could try. One is Hogs Head; take the road from Waterville towards Caherdaniel. Immediately after crossing the bridge on the Caherdaniel side of Waterville take a sharp right turn and drive through the Skellig Bay golf course. Follow this narrow road for a couple of miles, on your right is Ballinskelligs Bay. You should see a slip way on your right hand side. Go another half mile beyond the slip way and the road begins to rise. There are a number of rocks which you can fish from in this area.
Alternatively you could try the Abbey Island on Derrynane Beach or Lams Head, just outside Caherdaniel Village. Good Fishing!
