Report:

Quite a long trip but well worth the effort

Arklow threw up the usual of small fish close in and even a hungry dab engulfed a whole crab baited on a 3/0 pennel

Rigs i used where fairly standard scratching 3 hookers(sizes 2/4/4) and running 1 hookers(1/0 to 3/0) for close in fishing.
All the baits caught the fish which didnt seem too fussy.
Also tried a few tosses of the spinner with no joy.

Between us we caught about 20 fish in 4 hours but the urge to move on hit and it was onwards to the south.

First things first

The R742 road is in absolute tatters and is well avoided unless you have balls of steel and plenty of clean underwear

On arrival we met another angler who had hit a couple of bass earlier in the session so we settled in with high hopes for the evening

After a short time a little pup Smoothie took a fancy to a rag baited pennel and was followed by quite a few more of the same size (I was hopeing for a big smoothie but unfortunatly it wasnt to be)

I missed a classic Bass bite and for a while wondered if i had blown my chance.

Then Kevin got an almighty slam on his rod and hit into something very promising close in.

The beautiful sight of a Bass appeared out of the waves and at nearly 5 and a half pounds(Caught on rag) was a personal best for Kevin. He then followed this up with a 3 pounder(caught on Crab i think) as i grew a little bit annoyed at missing my chance earlier.

Even though i was hitting into fish on most casts i wanted either a Bass Ray or a big Smoothie to hit the beach so i launched one off the rods towards Wales and dropped the other in close
A Bloody doggy savaged my double crab pennel range rod and a little puppy smut showed interest on the close

Eventually i saw a lovely slam on the rod and hit into some decent weight

Felt the fish nodding and i started to think it was another dog until through the surf popped the beautiful sight of a Bass
At 3 and a half pounds(Caught on Crab) it wasnt the biggest i have ever caught but it was one of the most welcome.

Over the night there was no 1 bait or tactic that stood out All had there moments,it was just one of those sessions when things click and hopefully the future holds some decent Smoothie fishing with the amount of pups we caught(At least 20 when i lost count)

A few more fish hit the beach before it was time to call it a day. This always been a venue i have enjoyed fishing and it was nice to visit it again.

Tight lines all and i hope you enjoyed the Report
