Sting Ray

#1 Post by jerryfromkerry »

I have it from a very reliable source that very large Sting Ray are being caught at a mark near the SPA. This is on the road to Fenit and access is easy. Crab seems to be the bait so if anyone would like better instructions just reply to this. Fish up to 60lbs have been caught, you may ask why I do not fish this mark myself, well its not my kind of fishing.
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Ive had them around this time of year (when it starts to warm up) down there - but on the opposite side, over in Derrymore and Bunawonder. Right below the carparks there. Nothing fancy - and even on clear-water, blue-sky days - could even see pairs of them swimming around and up to the baits at times from the beach. My buddy (rip) used to catch amazing stingers down there, 60lb plus, but most around 10-12lb id say, and handled with a tea-towel around the tail! Was thinking of heading after them soon... i see no reason why they wouldnt be over on the SPA side either though ive never caught them there, (thornies and painted mostly for me there) - parking just at the s-bend in the road there....

Yes John, Derrymore and Bunawonder are two hot-spots. This mark is to the east of the s-bend, let me know if you need precise instructions.

Nine anglers fished the SPA area hard on Monday and had only 1 thornback to report. I have fished it myself a number of times this year and no Stingers. The present weather will put them right off the feed.

I'd love to know your reliable source, a tackle shop I guess

Hey John, was thinking of heading down there myself but was talking to 17 guys from Wexford retired gardai and such came down to fish 2days there and had only flounder. Looks like i wont be making that mistake. Would love to know the reliable source thats not so reliable......
