Hello pookie5488.
For all my light surf and spinning for bass I use a Daiwa Vulcan X 11' rod and a okuma epix eb50 f/s reel (the one with the bait runner) and even an idiot like me has no problem. I sure there will be plenty who disagree but it works for me.

I picked up an Shakespeare Odessa pike rod for 50 sterling. I find it an excellent rod for spinning for Pollock, good length at 12ft. And the bonus of it being rated 3lb test curve(or in beach fishing terms 3 ounces) A good flattie/ bass rod. The rods light so makes holding all day easy.
Fits that space between plug rod and full out beachcaster nicely.
Sinking Fast.
